Happy Vermonters: Kendall Lambert and James Merriam Return to their Roots

“I’m a libertarian and pagan, and James is a socialist and pastor here in Newport. Our dinner conversations are never dull, as you can imagine, but it’s nice that we can challenge each other. We agree what it means to be a good person and community member, and that really grounds our relationship. It’s interesting because even though we both grew up in Vermont, we met on an online dating site while we were living in California. We moved back to Vermont a few years ago and eventually came to Newport for James’ job. There’s a perception that nothing is going on up here, and that’s just not true. You just have to look a little harder to find it.”

-Kendall Lambert, consumer education and food access coordinator at Green Mountain Farm to School with her husband, Pastor James Merriam of United Church of Newport
