Around Addison County: A Passport to History
May 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 8:00 am on Tuesday, repeating until August 27, 2026

Curious about local history and eager to win your town’s special 250th pin? Pick up or download a copy of “Around Addison County: A Passport to History,” and by visiting six sites in each of eight towns, you can achieve just that.
“Around Addison County: A Passport to History” is a collaborative effort among eight local historical societies. The program celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary. Inspired by the Vermont 250th Commission’s vision, the collaborative hopes to promote unity across the region.
Pick up a free passport booklet at participating locations or access one online. Then, by visiting six distinct sites in each town—Addison, Bristol, Charlotte, Ferrisburgh, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven, and Starksboro—learn about each town’s unique history. Sites range from places tied to the American Revolution to schools, homes, civic buildings, notable architecture, natural landmarks, museums, and businesses. By visiting all sites in a town, participants can earn a commemorative 250th button pin. Pins are available for pick up from May to mid-October.
The initiative aims to make history fun and educational for everyone, while highlighting each community’s individuality. The “Around Addison County: A Passport to History” program is free and welcomes everyone—individuals, families, and groups. Participants may tour by car, but most locations within each town are pedestrian-friendly and thoughtfully grouped for convenience.
The free passports can be picked up at the following locations:
ADDISON — Addison Town Clerk; Chimney Point Hist. Site (late May-early Oct)
BRISTOL — Lawrence Memorial Library
CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Library; Charlotte Museum (mid-June to mid-Oct)
FERRISBURGH — Rokeby Visitor’s Center
LINCOLN — Lincoln General Store
MONKTON — Monkton Town Clerk; Russell Memorial Library
NEW HAVEN — New Haven Library
STARKSBORO — Starksboro Public Library; Jerusalem Store
VERGENNES — Bixby Library
