Bennington Cemetery Tour

Take a tour of the Bennington Center Cemetery with Bennington Museum curator Jamie Franklin.

Have you ever wondered what stories lie in the cemetery behind the Old First Church? This guided tour starts in the museum’s Vermont Rocks! exhibition, where you will learn about Vermont’s three state rocks (and frequent headstone materials), marble, granite and slate.

The tour continues in the Bennington Center Cemetery, where you’ll hear stories of some of the people buried there and introduce you to the works of some of the region’s early headstone carvers.

Wear good walking shoes and be prepared for some uphill walking and uneven terrain. Be sure to bring water to drink and applying sunscreen and bug spray.
