Celebrate maple season at the 16th annual Lunenburg Maple Festival.
Enjoy a pancake breakfast between 8-10:30 a.m., and a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. at the Lunenburg School, 49 Bobbin Hill Road.
At the Gilman School between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a maple flavored pie contest, interactive displays, antique sugaring equipment, gift items, a raffle, door prizes, maple cotton candy, and more.
Around town (open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), all within a short distance of the school buildings, visit six sugarmakers, hear their stories of carrying on their family heritage, purchase maple syrup, and weather permitting, watch syrup being made. The sugarhouses provide a representation of the diverse number of tapped trees, methods of sap collection, length of operation, and product sales. “Treats” are also often available.
NOTE: Self-guided tour maps to the sugarhouses open for visitors are available at the Lunenburg School and Gilman School building greeting tables, guiding visitors specifically from each location.
