Vermont Jazz Center’s Emerging Artist Festival in Brattleboro is a two-day event celebrating youth performers.
Headlining this year’s festival will be Grammy Award-winning drummer Ulysses Owens, who will be joined by a group of rising stars, the Generation Y Band featuring Anthony Hervey, trumpet; Langston Hughes II, saxophones and flute; Liya Grigoryan, piano; and Guillermo Lopez, bass.
The VJC encourages participation by local student groups during Gallery Walk on Friday, November 7, and at the VJC during the day on November 8. To date, groups from Vermont Academy, Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter School, Brattleboro Union High, Northfield Mt. Hermon, The VJC Youth Jazz Ensemble, UMass Amherst, the Samadhi Mathes Quartet, and Emily Margaret’s exciting new band are committed to attend. There will also be a clinic for all ages and an evening concert for the general public with Owens and Generation Y.
All Friday and Saturday daytime activities for the EAF are free and open to the public; donations are appreciated. Owens and Generation Y’s concert at the VJC’s performance space is a ticketed event.
Tickets are $25 general admission. Contact the VJC for educational discounts.
