Camel’s Hump is one of those mountains that makes me feel rooted, like I’m home and I belong.

I feel that way about a few mountains, like Mount Equinox, Hunger Mountain and Bromley.

We’ve been going to Russell Farm in Starksboro f

We’ve been going to Russell Farm in Starksboro for nearly a decade to get our Christmas tree.

Dave and Janet Russell bought the farm from Janet’s parents in the 1970s. The farm was a dairy farm until the couple sold their cows several years ago. Now they primarily focus on growing Christmas trees—and producing maple syrup—on their Route 116 farm.

For Dave Russell, creating an experience with Christmas trees and sleigh rides was a long-time dream that became a reality 40 years ago.

“I guess I wanted an excuse to have horses,” he told me on my podcast three years ago. “My dad had horses, and I grew up with horses. I had this vision of taking people with the horses to get a Christmas tree.”

Happy winter! The Notch Road / Route 108 between S

Happy winter! The Notch Road / Route 108 between Stowe and Cambridge will close at 7 pm on Friday, Nov. 22 to all traffic.

That means it’s prime time for winter hiking, snowshoeing and skiing on this winding, narrow scenic road.

This notice is probably (hopefully) for the season, but if conditions change it could open back up, according to the VT Agency of Transportation.

Things like the first snow of the season, memories of family gatherings and a certain beauty in the bleakness stir up lots of feelings.

On a lighter note, I think I am ready for snow. ❄️
